Deseret Land & Livestock
(DLL) is a large
cattle ranch near Woodruff, UT that offers a site where stake and
ward groups can conduct 3 or 4 day youth pioneer
treks. The terrain includes open meadows of prairie grass and sage
with rolling hills and small canyons. Elevation of the ranch ranges
from 6,500 to 7,500 feet. Groups pull handcarts over approximately
22-26 miles of ranch roads, two tracks, and cross country routes.
DLL supplies the groups with
handcarts, water trailers, and porta-johns trailers. They also
provide guidance in planning and training leaders. Two missionary
couples and two recreation students help oversee groups while they
are on the ranch. Individual groups provide their own leadership,
itinerary, medical staff, and food.
There is a $15 charge per
person for handcart and site maintenance.
The ranch schedules two
stake groups or three smaller ward groups a week between June and
August. There are a number of trek routes on the ranch to prevent
groups from interfering with one another during their stay. Detailed information about each site, as well as polices and planning information can be found in the
General Handbook for Trek Leaders.
