South Valley Almond Company (SVAC) is
an almond and pistachio farm. Though SVAC does not produce a conducive atmosphere for onsite treks, the farm recognizes the importance of having positive activities for youth. Because of the demand for handcarts in California, SVAC decided to provide a service by purchasing, maintaining, storing, and renting handcarts on a trailer which can be taken to your trekking site.
South Valley Almond Company has 30 handcarts available for stake or ward groups to rent for pioneer treks. Each handcart box is four feet wide, five feet long and 16 inches deep. Attached to the front of each handcart is a 25-foot cotton rope, allowing several people to pull the cart. These handcarts were built to handle the gear for 10-12 people. There is a $15 charge per person for handcart and site maintenance. Detailed information about each site, as well as polices and planning information can be found in the
General Handbook for Trek Leaders.
For Reservations select SVAC Treks Calendar from the Reservations menu. Follow the instructions to submit a reservation request online.
Groups should call Lee Brown (661)-391-9000 two weeks prior to obtaining the handcarts in order to arrange the pick up time. When leaders come to check out the handcarts they will receive instructions and review the handcart/trailer safety rules. Leaders will complete the Handcart Check Out/In Form when they return the handcarts.
